Project Overview

EigenLayer is an Ethereum protocol that introduces "restaking," allowing users to extend Ethereum's security to other applications by staking assets (Native ETH, LSTs, EIGEN token, or ERC20 tokens) into its smart contracts. This creates a shared security infrastructure where multiple services can benefit from Ethereum's security simultaneously, reducing capital costs for stakers and eliminating the need for new projects to bootstrap their own security networks.

The protocol operates through a system where stakers can delegate their assets to Operators who run Actively Validated Services (AVSs). These Operators help run various services built on EigenLayer, while stakers maintain control over which services they opt into. Through this architecture, EigenLayer enables permissionless innovation and free-market governance while leveraging Ethereum's existing security infrastructure.
