Project Overview

Kroma is an innovative Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain solution that aims to combine the best aspects of both Optimistic and ZK rollups while addressing their limitations. The project is taking a pragmatic two-step approach, starting as an Optimistic Rollup and planning to evolve into an EVM Equivalent ZK Rollup, distinguished by its use of zkEVM for fault proofs and zk-friendly components like ZK Trie and Poseidon hashes from the initial phase to enable a smooth transition between rollup types.

The project emphasizes three core philosophical principles: being pragmatic in addressing blockchain adoption challenges, taking an adaptive approach to improve existing solutions rather than reinventing them, and maintaining a strong focus on user-friendliness for both developers and users. Kroma, whose name derives from the Greek word "chroma," is actively working on decentralizing its Sequencer through collaborations with expert researchers and is committed to open-source development, with plans to launch its testnet that will allow DApp deployment and gradually decentralize node operations.
