Project Overview

Redstone is an Optimistic Rollup blockchain built on the OP Stack that aims to provide cheaper transactions compared to Ethereum mainnet while maintaining most of its security guarantees. What makes Redstone unique is its use of Plasma mode for data availability, where it only posts input commitments (transaction data hashes) to L1 Ethereum while keeping the actual data off-chain, resulting in significantly lower transaction costs.

To ensure data availability without relying on L1 Ethereum's guarantees, Redstone implements a Data Availability Challenges (DA Challenges) system. This mechanism allows nodes to challenge input commitments if they can't access the data from the DA Provider, requiring challengers to post a bond equivalent to the cost of resolving the challenge. The system is designed to prevent spam challenges while ensuring data remains available when needed, though it means Redstone doesn't inherit Ethereum's full data availability guarantee, only its data integrity guarantee.
